Very reasonable conclusion to draw! Many Christians describe the requirement to be a Christian is to believe in Jesus - but then apply hundreds of rules one must live by to either get that status, keep the status, or prove they have the status. It becomes quite impossible to meet the strict definition when using one's performance to determine their faith.
